Trial Delayed for Humbird Man Involved in Car Crash that Resulted in the Deaths of Two Neillsville Women

Monday, March 2nd, 2020 -- 1:36 PM

-A Humbird man involved in a car crash that resulted in the deaths of two Neillsville women appeared in Clark County Court on Friday.

Back in December of 2017, Trenton Bemis was traveling west on Highway 10 when he crossed the centerline by Sidney Avenue and struck a vehicle, killing 29-year-old Michelle Kunze and 35-year-old Genie Carrillo. Bemis has been charged with 2 counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, 2 counts of homicide by use of a vehicle with a PAC and 2 counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. During his Motion Hearing on Friday, the county’s new district attorney asked to have his jury trial, scheduled for March 23rd - April 3rd, rescheduled because she felt she will not be prepared for trial and witnesses will not be available for trial.

The court was hesitant to reschedule, as it took 9 months to schedule this upcoming trial and the 2 weeks it took would be wasted. There would also be a long delay in scheduling it again. The court said the two options were for the state to dismiss the case and refile or they could reschedule. In the end, the court granted the DA’s motion to have the upcoming trial rescheduled, but no future date has been set at this time.
