UW Madison Center For Dairy Research and Babcock Hall Dairy Plant Receives Boost In Funding

Saturday, February 29th, 2020 -- 6:15 AM

Nearly two years after the Wisconsin State Building Commission approved plans to overhaul the Center for Dairy Research and Babcock Hall Dairy Plant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the panel has voted to boost its levels of funding to nearly $26 million.

Much of that support will come from UW-Madison, additional borrowing and private donations. Built in the 1950s, the school's dairy facilities are in need of major upgrades. The original estimate for the project was $32 million, but coordinators now say it will take about $72.6 million to do the proper renovations and stock the center with state-of-the-art equipment.

As part of the expansion, the Center for Dairy Research will get a new auditorium that can seat about 100 students. Other labs and kitchens located next to the auditorium will also be constructed. Similar renovations are also being made at the Dairy Pilot Plant at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. (Wisconsin Ag Connection)
