Black River Falls Teacher Receives Special Awards

Thursday, February 27th, 2020 -- 9:37 AM

(Banner Journal) -Surrounded by a busy group of fifth-graders at Red Creek Elementary, Black River Falls School District elementary art teacher Jennifer Dahl wasn’t thinking about two more awards she recently learned she would be honored with.

The first, the 2020 National Elementary Art Educator award, Dahl will receive during the National Art Education Association National Convention being held in Minneapolis in March. Dahl lives in Mondovi and travels to BRF every school day where she teaches art class at Forrest Street Elementary and RCE. “I’ve always loved working with kids and art,” shared Dahl. “I have always loved art from little on. I would often have my own art show and give people tickets to come. I had the best high school art teacher, and she was my inspiration to become an art teacher.” The UW-Eau Claire’s Teacher Education Program also selected Dahl to receive a 2020 Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Pre-Service Educator Award. Dahl was nominated by her RCE Principal Laura Simonson. This award is presented to an outstanding educator who has demonstrated a commitment to mentoring pre-service teachers. Recipients are selected based on their ability to model professional responsibility, effective classroom management and evidentiary assessment to help advance future educators’ skills and leadership.

To honor Dahl’s accomplishments, UW-Eau Claire will present her a check for $500. She will be recognized at a reception in April. “We greatly value our partnership and know that you have positively impacted the lives of many students as they have entered the teaching profession,” shared UW-Eau Claire College of Education and Human Sciences Dean Carmen Manning. “It’s clear that you are highly regarded by UW-Eau Claire faculty and students, your school, your students and the greater community. We are sincerely grateful for your wonderful mentorship.” Founded in 1947, the National Art Education Association is the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts educators.

Members include elementary, middle and high school visual arts educators; college and university professors; university students preparing to become art educators; researchers and scholars; teaching artists; administrators and supervisors; and art museum educators??"as well as more than 54,000 students who are members of the National Art Honor Society. We represent members in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, U.S. Possessions, most Canadian Provinces, U.S. military bases around the world, and 25 foreign countries. The mission of NAEA is to advance visual arts education to fulfill human potential and promote global understanding.
