Wisconsin One of Forty States Investigating JUUL

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020 -- 10:41 AM

(WRN) -A coalition of nearly 40 states is investigating tobacco giant JUUL over possible misconduct.

A coalition of nearly 40 states is investigating tobacco giant JUUL over possible misconduct. Attorney General Josh Kaul says too many kids are vaping, and they want to know if JUUL was improperly marketing to them.

"But unfortunately, what we've seen recently is a big jump in e-cigarette usage and that can have long term health effects for people using those."

Kaul says they want to get to the bottom of possible efforts by the company to entire kids to vape.

"One of the things we want to make sure we're doing is looking into whether there have been any improper sales or marketing tactics that were used."

Kaul says the investigation will look at two points of contention.

"Were there sales and marketing practices targeted at young people who are underage for buying e-cigarettes."

A study shows that as of 2018, 20 percent of Wisconsin high school students reported vaping, up from just over 7 percent in 2014.
