Clark County Number One in Corn Silage in 2019

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Rock County was the largest corn producer in Wisconsin during the past growing season.That's according to the latest figures from the USDA, which reports farmers in the area ran 27 million bushels through their combines in 2019. The agency says Grant, Dane, Lafayette and Dodge Counties rounded out the top five for corn production last year. Rock County also had the highest corn yield in the state at 199.7 bushels per acre. Other leading counties were Grant with 198.3 bushels; Lafayette, 196.6 bushels; Iowa, 192.4 bushels; and Green, 189.2. Wisconsin corn growers overall produced 450 million bushels in 2019, with the average county only yielding 168 bushel per acre. Meanwhile, growers produced 18.2 million tons of corn silage, up 27 percent from the year earlier. Clark County chopped the most silage with 781,000 tons produced, followed by Manitowoc, Brown, Kewaunee and Green Counties. Pepin County had the highest average yield at 24.0 tons per acre.
And Rock, Grant, Dane and Dodge were the four largest soybean-producing counties in Wisconsin, with Rock producing 4.77 million bushels. Eight counties averaged over 50 bushels per acre, led by Lafayette County, where soybeans averaged 59.4 bushels per acre. Rusk County recorded the lowest yield in the state at 30.3 bushels per acre. The state's total soybean production was 79 million bushels in 2019. The average state yield was 47 bushels per acre, about two bushels more than the previous year.
