JFC WRAPS UP BUDGET; GOVERNOR NOT PLEASED

Friday, June 10th, 2005 -- 2:29 PM

Governor Jim Doyle summoned the media to his conference room Thursday, less than 2 hours after GOP leaders of had called their own news conference. The Joint Finance Committee wanted to talk about a property tax freeze and spending more money on education. What Republicans called 458 million dollars in additional spending though, the governor called a spending cut. He called it "the biggest cut in education spending for Wisconsin schools" in years. He said it leaves people with an unpleasant choice: cut back education quality, or raise property taxes. So, what can the Democrat do? It's a four-letter word: veto.
