Plenty to Do in the Black River Falls Area

Thursday, February 6th, 2020 -- 12:37 PM

-It may still be winter outside, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of events happening for people to enjoy.

And that’s especially true in the Black River Falls area. I spoke with Amanda Gunn, the Chamber Director for Black River Falls, and she talked about some of those events.

“Right now, there is actually a Karaoke Challenge going on. And it’s rotating between different area businesses. Between Rozario’s, the Wright Place and Sand Creek Brewery. There’s lots of local singers in this competition. They’re wanting the public to come to all of the events and the next event is actually this Friday at Sand Creek Brewery. There will be different singers all night long. They start around 8pm and they go until they’re finished. That has been a fun event to follow to each different business each week as it rotates through the businesses. And at the very end, they will have a winner and the last day for competition is February 22nd.”

“A couple other things going on in the area, this weekend there is another youth hockey tournament. It’s the Squirt Tournament going on here at the Milt Lunda Arena, so they always like spectators to come and watch those. This weekend as well, a local business here, Miller’s Antiques and Auction Company, they are hosting a very large advertising auction and that’s actually taking place at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on February 7th and 8th, starting at 9am both days. Also, this weekend, on Saturday, the Hatfield Area is having their annual Souper Bowl. It’s a fundraiser for the fire department where there will be 20-30 different kinds of homemade soups there that people can try. And you can eat as much as you want for $8. And that is Saturday from 11am-2pm at the Stone’s Throw in Hatfield and they are also serving desserts as well.”

“Then Sunday, the Friends of the Black River are hosting a snowshoe/hike event. And that is starting at 12:30pm. They’re meeting here at the Chamber office in Black River at Noon and then they are carpooling and following people out to the location. They haven’t officially decided on the hike and snowshoe place yet, but it will be two miles and it will be family friendly. Snowshoes are not provided; however, one of our local retailers, Moe’s Hardware, can provide snowshoes for a small rental fee. So, those are some things coming up this weekend. Right now, ATV trails are open. However, snowmobile trails are not because of the interesting weather we’ve been having lately. We had some snow for awhile, but then it got warm and kinda melted! So, ATV trails are open when the temperatures are 28 degrees or less. And we’re also planning for our Annual Banquet coming up on Monday, March 2nd too and that’s going to be out at Castle Hill.”
