Thursday, February 6th, 2020 -- 9:37 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -For just the fourth time all year, Wisconsin's total cheese production went up in December when compared to the same month during 2018.

The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that state dairy plants made 280.2 million pounds of cheese during the month, which was a slight 0.2 percent more than a year earlier, but 2.2 percent lower than this past November, despite having less days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.11 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in December.

That was a 0.2 percent increase over 2018, and 1.3 percent more than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 26.6 million pounds, which was up 11.8 percent from last year, and 18.7 percent more compared to last month.
