Health Officials Remind Wisconsin Residents that it's Still the Flu Season

Thursday, February 6th, 2020 -- 9:36 AM

(WRN) -Wisconsin may be seeing its first case of Wuhan coronavirus, but health officials are reminding people that it's still the flu season.

As Wisconsin starts to deal with its first confirmed case of the Wuhan coronavirus, Congressman Mike Gallager says he would have liked to see more assistance from the Chinese government. Gallagher says they've resisted help from US authorities.

"What they should do is stop being lead by pride, and allow us to help them contain this."

Gallager says more stringent screenings and flight quarantines could have prevented this.

"I think we were far too slow in implementing a targeted travel ban. It sounds like we're shutting down flights now."

Gallager agrees, and says there's a simple way to keep yourself and others safe.

"Get your flu shot, everyone needs to get out there and get your flu shots. A stunningly high number of people succumb to death related to flu every year."

Gallagher also reminds people to get their flu shots to help protect themselves and others for what's also turning out to be a deadly flu season as well.
