Neillsville City Council Discusses Police Officer Eligibility List

Friday, January 31st, 2020 -- 9:50 AM

-The Neillsville City Council discussed having an eligibility list for potential officers for the Neillsville Police Department.

This was another item placed on the agenda by Neillsville’s new Police Chief, James Mankowski. He stated he would like to build this eligibility list to cut back on the time the department has to take to hire and train a new officer. They would do an initial screening to see if the department would be a right fit for them. Then, if a new officer is needed, the department would begin the hiring process by using this established list.

Chief Mankowski said he believes the department will be in need of a new officer soon. The department would work with Police and Fire Commission to establish this list and continue to work with them during the hiring process like the city has always done. Because the council only deals with approving the final hiring of the officer, they didn’t need to take any action on the item.
