Marshfield Common Council Revisits Funding for Aquatic Center

Thursday, January 30th, 2020 -- 8:29 AM

(Hub City Times) -During the Jan. 28 Marshfield Common Council meeting, city leaders revisited the issue of funding for the $6.5 million aquatic center building project planned for the city, using $3 million in private donations, along with $3.5 million in matching funds from the city.

City Administrator Steve Barg says the council discussed whether funds, from entities like Marshfield Utilities or the city’s Economic Development Board, could be used to help round out the $3 million private donation portion of the project, which is currently at around the $2 million dollar mark. But council members like Rebecca Spiros said it’s premature to think the $3 million private donation goal won’t be reached.

If fundraising goals aren’t met in time for summer construction planning, city officials have voiced concerns that a July groundbreaking for the new water park could be delayed for as much as a year.
