Official Numbers for 2019 Gun Deer Season

Saturday, January 25th, 2020 -- 1:17 PM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -We now have a more accurate picture of how Wisconsin deer hunters did during the nine-day gun deer season in 2019.

The Department of Natural Resources says 168,091 deer were bagged last year, which is down nearly 25 percent from the 2018 hunting totals. The agency's preliminary count was 160,769 deer when the season closed in early December.

The later season, snowy weather and a wet fall are all being blamed for the lower deer harvest. Meanwhile, retail outlets sold just over 794,700 gun deer licenses last season, compared to 806,400 the previous year.
