Updates From the Owen Withee School Board

The Owen-Withee School Board reviewed the 2018-19 audit at their meeting on Monday.The board reviewed the full audit report and the executive summary of the 2018-19 audit from their auditing firm of Clifton Larson and Allen. The audit had no surprises from the original budget. They did have two findings, things that need work, that involves segregation of duties. Schools Owen-Withee’s size continuously have these findings due to the small staff in business offices. CLA makes recommendations on how to overcome these findings and the district does their best to implement those recommendations. The CP-I used for their contracts that renew on July 1st is not available yet. It will be ready in early March. The current CP-I for the May 1st contracts is 1.79%. The CP-I is the maximum base wage increase the board can offer to the teachers and the support staff for the 2020-21 contract year. The board also reviewed numbers for students in regular ed classes and special needs classes to set the limits of students who can enroll in the district under open-enrollment for the 2020-21 school year.
The Board set the limit of 100 regular ed students. The board unanimously approved the renewal of their contract with the Rural Virtual Academy. This contract is a five year contract that coincides with the renewal of the 5 year charter they have with the DPI. Finally, the board unanimously approved the renewal of the 3-year contract with Baseman Bros. to refinish the high school gym floor each summer and District Administrator Bob Houts will be out of town on the date of the March meeting. The board decided to keep the meeting date as is, second Monday in March at 7:00 PM.
