Neillsville City Council Hears Several Reports

-The Neillsville City Council heard several reports at their meeting on Tuesday.

The council heard the Public Works Report. The usual amount of work was done in the city including cemetery and parks maintenance, burials, equipment maintenance, plowing, snow and ice removal, brush chipping, trimming and pruning trees, maintaining street lighting, filling pot holes, hauling brush and compost and more. They also cleaned and flooded the hockey rink and removed the Christmas decorations. They did some maintenance on the lift stations and plant, bar screen maintenance, they installed a new monitoring system and worked on sewer back ups. The DNR inspection is also complete, they did the meter change outs and they started to add radio readouts. The council also heard the Library Board Report from their meeting on December 26th. They approved the hiring of Janay Ziebell as the new Library Director at $17 an hour with a $2 an hour increase after the completion of her certification. They also tabled assistant positions and pay rates.

The council heard the Police and Fire Commission Report from their meeting on December 31st. This was the meeting that approved the hiring of James Mankowski as the new Police Chief for the City of Neillsville at $65,000 per year with a one year probationary period. A citizen also spoke about some concerns regarding some legal issues with the sale of industrial park land to Xcel Energy. Former Interim Police Chief Patrick Fehlman addressed the council about the changes to the department with the hiring of the new chief and they will work on getting some numbers updates for the council. Finally, Mayor Glassbrenner mentioned a presentation on February 12th regarding the economic impact the new Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville facility will have on the area and county.
