Owen-Withee School Board Hears Update on ARC Program

-The Owen-Withee School Board began their meeting on Monday with an ARC update from some of the elementary teachers.Ms. Jodi Rahn, Mrs. Susan Nelson and Mrs. Katie Hatlestad brought the board up-to-date on the implementation of the ARC Reading program. The Literacy Lab was started during the 1st quarter of school. The 2nd nine weeks was a teacher developed unit using the ARC principles. 3rd quarter will be the Research Lab that is part of ARC, with the 4th nine weeks being another teacher-developed unit. Two more ARC units will be purchased for next year. All three teachers indicated that surveys of the elementary staff was very positive about the ARC program and implementation. Teachers find the processes and the materials to be very high quality and make teaching reading more structured.
All three had stories of students reading more, enjoying reading and making significant gains in there reading progress. The board thanked Ms. Rahn, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Hatlestad for the update. Also, after a one month review period, the board discussed the final version of the 2020-21 school calendar. Hearing no objections or revisions, the board unanimously approved the calendar. The 2020-21 calendar has been posted on the district’s website.
