WE Energies Offers Tips to Reduce Electric Bill During the Holiday Season

Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 -- 9:46 AM

(WRN) -If you're worried about an increased electric bill this holiday season, We Energies is here to help you trim your costs as you trim your tree.

You can help save both energy and money this holiday season with some tips from We Energies. Spokeswoman Amy Jahns says one big mistake people make is opening up their ovens too often to check on cookies or roasts.

"Opening up the door several times can drop the temperature in your oven nearly 25 degrees, and that can add to your cooking time an energy use."

Jahns says one good way to save on energy this winter is to turn down the thermostat when you're on vacation and when you're sleeping.

"You should turn down your thermostat by seven to ten degrees. This can help save as much as 10 percent a year on your heating costs."

Jahns says you want to be sure that you're not overloading your house's electrical system with lights, and that you string them properly.

"Be sure that you're following all the proper directions on the packages of lights that you're purchasing, and again those LED lights are probably the best money savers for you this holiday season."

You should also be sure to keep space heaters away from your Christmas tree and any presents, in order to keep them from starting on fire.
