Racine Democrat Introduces Climate Change Bills

Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 -- 8:46 AM

(WRN) -A Racine democrat is introducing a package of bills aimed at improving the environment and combating climate change.

Representative Greta Neubauer says climate change is already here, and Wisconsin has been affected for some time now.

"We all feel the effects of climate change and the fossil fuel economy, particularly low income families, people of color, and our rural communities."

Neubauer says this is something that has to be done, not for this generation, but those to come.

"For young people, climate change isn't an issue that feels far away at the bottom of the list of priorities. It keeps them up at night and makes the future difficult to imagine."

Neubauer says her "Forward on Climate" package is a multi-step approach at changes that can be made right now.

"From supporting our farmers, to building the clean energy manufacturing sector, to investing in our kids and schools, these bills build up our communities and bring new opportunities to Wisconsin."

The bills will offer grants to improve energy efficiency in schools, encourage farmers to use sustainable practices, and push the Public Service Commission to consider social concerns in the construction of infrastructure and facilities. It also calls for more efforts to promote Green Energy research in the private sector.
