NEILLSVILLE RESIDENTS RECYCLING LESS; COULD COST CITY

Friday, April 15th, 2005 -- 10:53 AM

Neillsvillians have been getting a bit lax in their recycling, and that could end up costing the city. Public Works Director Dave Flynn says the city gets a state grant every year that offsets the cost of recycling ?last year they received $12,000. The city?s eligibility is based on the amount of material city residents recycle.

"Our numbers are down a bit - mostly in the paper area," Flynn notes, "If we don't get those numbers up, we won't be eligible for that grant and that cost goes right back to the taxpayer."

In Neillsville, paper products need to be sorted ? everything else (plastic, aluminum cans, etc) can be co-mingled.

If you have misplaced your green recycling bin, you can get a replacement for free by contacting the Public Works office at 743-5678.
