Clark County Forestry and Parks Director Gives Report

Friday, November 22nd, 2019 -- 9:12 AM

The Clark County Tourism Committee heard an update from Clark County Forestry and Parks Director Rick Dailey at their meeting on Wednesday.

The big item he discussed was hunting. Hunting generates big numbers for Clark County in regards to sales. Annually, hunters spend $2.5 billion in Wisconsin and the state is ranked second among all states in the number of residents and non-resident hunters. However, Rick did state that the county does take a bit of hit in regards to hunting season. All logging in the county forest stops and even other recreation activities like biking, hiking and more tend to decrease with hunters in the woods. He also stated that his department gets very busy fielding complaints throughout the season and after the season is completed. Rick also mentioned that there’s a deer carcass dumpster by the old Cenex here in Neillsville for hunters to dispose of their deer carcasses. Also, the Owen Sports and Liquor, Rock Creek Disabled Outdoors and Apple Valley Bar and Grill have self serve CWD sampling kiosks for hunters test their deer for CWD.

Some other items Rick mentioned included Bruce Mound already making snow and they hope to open by the 2nd Saturday in December. They also have new lighting and music on the tubing hill. He also tlaked about the reservation system for campgrounds, pavilions and other permits on the county’s website.

Finally, he discussed the Fairgrounds Revitalization Project. The project is coming along nicely as they continue to raise funds to pay for the new buildings at the fairground and he thanked the county Board of Supervisors for supporting the projects and committing funds towards the buildings.
