Neillsville City Council Approves Making Changes to Snow Removal Ordinance

Thursday, November 14th, 2019 -- 11:50 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved making changes to their snow removal ordinance at their meeting on Tuesday.

The current ordinance gives a specific time as to when the snow needs to be removed by residents from their sidewalks. However, Public Works Director Dave Flynn stated that the time wasn’t realistic. He suggested changing the specific time to within 24 hours of a snow storm. The council approved a guideline in wording that was given to the city attorney. She will make the changes and the council will vote on the new ordinance at their next meeting. This item was first approved during the Public Works portion of the meeting and then again during the regular Common Council Meeting. The council also approved an Elections Safety Grant from the state. They were given a $1,200 to improve security for the upcoming 2020 Presidential Election.

Finally, the council approved a part-time custodian position for City Hall. The current custodian has received more hours at another job and is unable to keep up with the current workload. The council approved advertising for a part-time custodian that would clean both City Hall and the Neillsville Public Library. The position is 16-20 hours a week, with a maximum of 1200 hour annually and no benefits.
