The Highground's Military Care Package and Veteran's Donation Drive this Saturday

-The Highground is taking part in a Military Care Package and Veteran’s Donation Drive now through this Saturday, November 16th.

You can take part in this event by donating items for the drive, funds to cover the shipping of the packages or you can donate time by helping put the packages together and getting them shipped to our deployed troops. Items that can be donated include factory-packaged handy food such as: Breakfast Bars, Clif Bars, Protein Bars, (no chocolate in the bars), Beef Jerky, Slim Jims,Non-refrigerated Summer Sausage (Meat should be labelled USDA Beef), Ramen Noodle packages, Mac N Cheese cups, Cup O Soup ??" just add water; Nuts, Salsa and Chips, Cookies (not chocolate; iced oatmeal is good!), Pretzels; Snack Crackers (not saltines) ??" harder ones like Triscuit, Wheat thins, Chick’N in a Bisket, Ritz; Cold Cereal Small Boxes ??" the ones that come in 6 or 8 packs; Good quality tins of sardines, smoked oysters, baby clams, tuna; Water Flavoring powder packets, Packages of Carnation Instant Breakfast; and Small Cans of Bean or Cheese Dip, Taco Seasoning packets, Hot Sauce ??" packets are good idea.

You can also donate Non-melting Candy (chocolate candy bars melt) ??" licorice is good; Fruit Leather; Peppermints and other Hard Candy; High quality toilet paper; Foot Powder; Lip Balm; Crossword Books; Current Magazines ??" nothing with bikinis, etc (no Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editions); A personal letter / card from you ??" not in an envelope; High Quality Socks; Tooth flossing picks; Small packets of Kleenex; Puzzles; Baseballs / Mitts; Board Games; Beanie Babies to hand out to children; and Batteries AA and AAA. Some items not accepted include; Anything remotely indecent or offensive (no Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions, for example); no bulk items that are religious in nature (religious items for individuals are OK as long as they are not anti-Arab or anti-Muslim); no pork products, no aersosols, no air bags for packing; no cigarettes; no CBD (cannabis oil) products; no nail polish; no perfume; nothing political; and no chocolates or gummies (they melt into a mess).

You can also donate money to cover the cost of shipping the care packages. Each box will cost between $15 - $20 to ship. You can also donate Ziploc bags to use while putting Care packages together. There is also an ongoing Collection and Distribution to Local Homeless Veterans and Veterans / Families in Need. The Highground Veterans Donation Trailer, sponsored by Enbridge, Central WI Broadcasting and Trunkel Trailer is ready to be filled up with donated winter clothing (new or very gently used), Sleeping Bags, Blankets, New Socks, New Thermal Underwear, personal toiletries, disposable hand warmers, and non-perishable food! Donations can be brought to The Highground Museum lower level from 10am ??" 4pm any day of the week.
