Marshfield Alderman Vote to Not Remove "No Firearms" Sign at City Hall

Wednesday, November 13th, 2019 -- 9:33 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield Aldermen will not be removing a sign at City Hall that reads "No Firearms”.

The Marshfield Common Council voted 5-to-4 last night against a motion by District Eight representative Rebecca Spiros to remove the sign to allow for concealed carry. Alderman Chris Jockheck voted with the majority to leave the sign in place. The Council put the issue on the agenda after a citizen with a concealed carry permit brought the idea to the Council for discussion last month.

Todd Zieglmeier had asked the Council to remove the sign, saying he could not carry at city hall without being charged with trespassing. Had the Council voted to remove the sign, City Administrator Steve Barg said he would have brought forward a proposed policy change to allow employees at City Hall to carry concealed.
