Wisconsin's Total Cheese Production for September of 2019 Increases Compared to A Year Ago

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -For just the second time this year, Wisconsin's total cheese production went up in September when compared to the same month during 2018.The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that state dairy plants made 281.3 million pounds of cheese during the month, which was a slight 0.7 percent more than a year earlier, but 2.2 percent lower than this past August, which had more days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.08 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in September.
That was 2.1 percent increase over 2018, but 3.7 percent less than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 24.5 million pounds, which was up 5.7 percent from last year, and 0.5 percent more compared to last month.
