Wisconsin DNR Asking Hunters to Keep Deer Carcasses Out of the Woods

Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 -- 6:18 AM

(WRN) -The archery deer season is in full swing and the gun deer season is quickly approaching, and the DNR is asking for your help in keeping the environment free of stray deer carcasses.

Waste Management Specialist Dan Kroll says the DNR has compiled a list of landfills statewide that will safely dispose of the carcass to prevent the spread.

"These locations include landfills, transfer stations which ultimately end up in the landfill, and then both Adopt A Dumpster locations and Department provided dumpsters."

Kroll says if they are infected with CWD, the disease could spread to other living deer.

"Spread through contact with deer and it also can be incorporated into the soil where it's been known to survive for many years."
