Senator Johnson Spoke with Ukrainian Diplomat Two Weeks Before President's Phone Call

Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 -- 9:43 AM

(WRN) -U.S. Senator Ron Johnson spoke to a Ukrainian diplomat this summer about Ukrainian involvement in the 2016 election -- two weeks before President Trump's now infamous phone call to that nation's president.

The Washington Post reported Monday that the Oshkosh Republican met with the diplomat for at least 30 minutes in July. Andrii Telizhenko told the Post he spoke to Johnson about an unsubstantiated claim that Ukraine interfered in the election. In addition to his conversation with Johnson he met with Senate staff.

House Democrats are investigating whether President Donald Trump pressured the Ukrainian government by delaying nearly 400 million dollars in military assistance while requesting investigations into the election and former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. According to Telizhenko, Johnson's aides initiated the contact between the two.
