Neillsville City Council Approves Amendment to Tobacco Ordinance

Thursday, October 24th, 2019 -- 11:20 AM

-The Neillsville City Council joined many other Clark County Communities by making a change to their tobacco ordinance.

At their regular meeting on Tuesday, the council amended their ordinance regarding the purchase or possession of tobacco products. The ordinance made changes to the items considered a tobacco product, like vaping products and those new items are included in the list of tobacco products that cannot be purchased or possessed by a minor. The council also approved allowing the Neillsville High School Junior class to have a Haunted Forest Fundraiser in the Listeman Arboretum on October 25th and 26th. They also approved the Neillsville Chamber to use the gazebo and Snietman Town Square for their Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa visit on December 6th. Finally, they approved allowing the CART Center to hang a banner on the gazebo for their ugly sweater walk on December 7th. The council also heard a couple committee reports. They heard the Historic Preservation Committee Report from October 9th. They approved a $2,000 grant for some reconstruction on a downtown property and they tabled a demolition request.

They also heard the Beautification Committee Report from their October 21st meeting. They discussed a proposal from JBC Screenprinting and a Christmas Tree decorating contest. Finally, the council heard the Public Works Report. The usual amount of work was done in the city including cemetery and parks maintenance, equipment maintenance, 4 burials, trimming and pruning trees, maintaining street lighting, filling pot holes, street sweeping, mowing, mulching and more. They also helped with the lighting in Schuster Park and the Sewer Department is installing a third pump at the old plant. They also did some lift station maintenance and maintenance to the plant. They also worked on the leaf box in preparation for leaf pick up, which will start soon. They reminded residents not to put branches, sticks or garden waste in their leaves because it plugs up the machine.
