Granton Village Board Discusses Rails-to-Trails Project

-The Granton Village Board discussed the Rails-to-Trails Project at their meeting on Wednesday.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the board discussed the possibility of financially supporting the trails project. The board supports the project but would like to see the project proceed a little further before committing money. There will be a trails presentation at the Granton Library on Oct 15th at 6pm. The board also discussed the possibility of holding a “Spring Clean Up” event to allow residents a chance to properly dispose of appliances, tires and electronics. All agreed this is a good idea and this will be revisited in March. The board also heard the Water Report. They focused on drain tiling in the park and Fall clean up. They also flushed the hydrants. The board heard the Sewer Report. They changed the stripper tower media, safety markers were placed on hydrants, they began drain tiling in the park, they shut off water to the campground and concession stand and they mowed in the cemetery. The board also heard an update from the clerk. She faxed the signed contract with GEC, scanned and e-mailed the signed Xcel Energy contract to update the electricity in the park, paid the $5,330.46 bill for the Xcel Energy upgrade.

Also, she mentioned that, per FEMA, the village is not in the flood plain but they are still able to join the National Flood Insurance Program. The village requested the packet of information. Finally, she stated the sales and use tax for the park was paid and submitted, she filed quarterly 941 and state unemployment quarterly reports and she began working with auditors to set an audit date. Finally, the board heard the Treasurer's Report. The Deposit and Expense report was presented. The checking balance is $85,556.69, the money market balance is $442,033.71, the cemetery CD is $16,927.29, the CDBG balance is $57,522.88, and the library balance is $31,753.10.
