No Changes to USDA's Wisconsin Crop Production Report

Friday, October 11th, 2019 -- 8:39 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The USDA has not made many changes since it's previous Wisconsin crop production report in September.

According to the latest figures, which were based on conditions as of October 1, corn farmers are still expected to harvest 463 million bushels this fall; and yields are projected to average 163 bushels per acre. However, that's nine bushels per acre less than last year. An estimated 2.84 million acres will be harvested for grain in 2019. Soybean production is forecast at 79.6 million bushels, with yield to be around 46 bushels per acre, down one-bushel from last month's report and two bushels lower than in 2018.

Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 1.75 million acres with 1.73 million acres to be harvested. And alfalfa and alfalfa mixtures for hay will be about 2.38 million tons by the end of the growing season. Yield is expected to average 2.80 tons per acre, slightly from last year. Harvested area is forecast at 850,000 acres, up 30,000 acres from 2018.
