Qdoba Restaurant Plans for Marshfield Stalled

Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 -- 10:43 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -Plans for a Qdoba Mexican Eats restaurant near the former Shopko store on Central Avenue have stalled.

Ron Stokes, president of Roaring Fork Restaurant Group, said Monday that the developer for a planned multi-tenant building in front of Shopko and next to Taco Bell has pulled out of the project and plans for the restaurant “went dead.” Stokes said the restaurant group is back to looking at other sites in Marshfield for a potential Qdoba location. “We are very interested in Marshfield,” Stokes said. “We want to be there in the worst way.” Stokes said Qdoba offers a fast-casual dining concept, and while there are many fast-food options in Marshfield there are no other fast-casual restaurants. He said the Marshfield Medical Center complex draws people to Marshfield, which is another reason for the restaurant group’s interest. “We have done well in a lot of similar-sized markets, and we are building our brand in central Wisconsin,” Stokes said.

Qdoba currently has locations in Stevens Point, Wausau and Weston. Stokes said in May 2018 that a Qdoba location in Marshfield was imminent and all that was left to do was finish the final minor details and sign a lease agreement. He said the restaurant was likely to open by early 2019. In January, Stokes told a Marshfield News-Herald reporter that the early 2019 opening date had been pushed back to late 2019 or early 2020 because of issues with a lease agreement. Roaring Fork Restaurant Group is based in Milwaukee and owns more than 50 Qdoba Mexican Eats locations in Wisconsin.
