Preliminary Budget Numbers at the Clark County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Monday, October 7th, 2019 -- 12:41 PM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors heard the 2020 Preliminary Budget report at their meeting on Wednesday of last week.

The county is facing some of the usual concerns it has from year to year regarding the budget. Those concerns include road repairs, which the county continually has to borrow for from year to year in order to complete more miles of road. However, they are still behind on the repair schedule. There’s also the continual upgrading of technology, some budgets are being presented from various departments without any cushion, there are continued delays in capital expenditures and there are concerns with state and federal budgets. They also worry about a wage increase for employees and the need to preserve the fund balance.

For 2020, the county is proposing acquiring $2,950,000 in debt to help pay for election equipment, highway bridge and culverts in the highway fund and the remaining money would go towards roads. Based on the preliminary numbers now, if everything were passed as presented on Wednesday, the levy for the county would be $17,820,426 including the debt mentioned above. The county is looking at an estimated mil rate of 8.04%.
