Early Estimates Indicate a Tornado Did Hit Clark County Tuesday Evening

Thursday, September 26th, 2019 -- 11:20 AM

-During the evening hours of September 24th severe thunderstorms moved across Clark County.

According to the Clark County Emergency Management Department, reports of damage were received with the most extensive damage reported in areas to the South and Southwest of the City of Greenwood. Trees and power lines were damaged/knocked down along with several barns and farm buildings being severely damaged or destroyed. National Weather Service staff were in the area today to assess damage to determine if the damage was caused by straight-line winds or possibly a Tornado. Preliminary indications are that there was a tornado. Exact strength and path are still being evaluated. Preliminary estimates indicate an EF0 or EF1. No damage estimates are available at this time. Clean up work is ongoing.

Events like this, along with previous storms earlier this year serve as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for disaster. Having an emergency supplies kit in your home including things such as non-perishable food, drinking water, flashlights and battery powered radios are just a few of the items to include. Be sure to review things such as insurance coverage and have important documents in a safe place where you can access them if needed. These steps will help you be as prepared as possible if disaster strikes.
