Marshfield Public Works Recommends Company to Oversee Construction of New Aquatic Center

Wednesday, September 18th, 2019 -- 8:42 AM

(WDLB) -The Boson Company would oversee the construction of Marshfield’s new aquatic center, under a recommendation from the city’s Board of Public Works.

The Board voted last night in favor of hiring the Marshfield firm, on the recommendation of Parks-and-Recreation Director Justin Casperson, who reviewed proposals from seven different bidders. Casperson said Boson’s job as Construction Manager will essentially be to keep the six-million dollar aquatic center project on schedule and within budget. The new aquatic center project is currently in the design phase, and Mayor Bob McManus says fundraising for the public-private partnership is off to a great start. June of 2021 has been identified as the projected completion time of fundraising, and August of 2022 as the completion of the aquatic center.

The agreement also identifies September of 2026 as the sunset date for all future pledges. A recent study showed an appetite for building a new aquatic facility in Marshfield. The findings of a campaign feasibility study were presented to the Marshfield Common Council in March. Last October, the Council signed off on a challenge grant, and agreed to cover half the cost of a new swimming pool for the city, if community fundraising efforts could raise the other half. The new facility will replace the 85-year-old Hefko Pool, which opened in 1934.
