Miss Neillsville Kickball Tournament Coming October 5th

Monday, September 16th, 2019 -- 1:21 PM

-The Miss Neillsville Program will be holding their 3rd Annual Kickball Tournament on October 5th.

I spoke with Michelle Friemoth, the director of the Miss Neillsville Program, and she explained the tourney in more detail.

“So, we started the Kickball Tournament 3 years ago, this is our 3rd year, and, basically, it’s a bunch of adults and teenagers, 14 and over, who come out, they have a great time and we play kickball! And we do all of this to help raise money for the Miss Neillsville Program, so we can give out scholarships and keep our program going.”

Michelle explained where the idea came from.

“Actually, it all started when my husband and a couple of his friends said, ‘hey, you should host a kickball tournament.’ And here we are, three years later, still going strong and it’s an absolute blast every year!”

They’ve seen really great turnout the past few years.

“The last couple years we’ve had five teams. We’re hoping to increase that number a lot. With that, every team has, usually, 9-12 players. They can have 10 players on the field at max, so it’s a lot of fun. And then everyone comes out and we have a lot of visitors or supporters come out too. They’re just there to watch and drink beer and have a good time!”

If you’re not the athletic type, but still want to help out, Michelle said they’d be happy to have you.

“We are always looking for scorekeepers. We are lucky this year, we’ve got a couple refs who are going to be volunteering and refing the whole thing for us. But we are always looking for donations of baked goods or water or soda or chips. Anything like that that the girls can sell at their food stand that they’re going to set up while they’re there. Or even if you’re just hungry, come on out that day and grab a brat. And this whole thing is at Listeman Field. We’re at Listeman Park this year again.”

There’s just a small cost for a day of fun playing kickball.

“It is a $50 fee per team. And that registration fee goes directly to the scholarship program. We are lucky enough to have a lot of great sponsors and they put up our prize money for us. So, this year we actually increased by a lot. We have $250 for the first place team and $100 for second place. So, there is definitely money to be won.”

Michelle explained when, where and what time.

“The kickball tournament is October 5th. It is always the first Saturday in October, so everyone can plan their Saturday in October for years to come, hopefully! You can pre-register at anytime, but, otherwise, registration starts at 9:30am and the games kick off at 10am.”

Michelle ended out interview by encouraging everyone to come out to the kickball tourney.

“It’s a lot of fun. Until you see a bunch of full grown adults out there playing kickball, and having the time of their life, you don’t know what you’re missing. So, come out October 5th and just support our program and support all your family and friends that are playing. So, go back to your playground roots and get a team together!”

Once again, that Kickball Tourney is being held on Saturday, October 5th.
