New Estimates From The USDA Show Wisconsin Farmers Will Not Yield As Much Corn Per Acre

New estimates from the USDA are showing that Wisconsin farmers will not yield as much corn per acre this year as previously thought.The latest crop production forecast shows producers can expect to harvest 463 million bushels this fall, with yields projected to average 163 bushels per acre. That's down two bushels per acre from the August forecast and nine bushels lower than last year. Corn planted acreage is estimated at 3.85 million acres, with 2.84 million acres going for grain. Soybean production is forecast at 83.7 million bushels. The yield will be unchanged from last month at 47 bushels per acre. However, that's two bushels per acress less than the 2018 harvest. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 1.80 million acres with 1.78 million acres to be harvested.
Nationally, the corn crop is expected to yield an average of 168.2 bushels per harvested acre, down 1.3 bushels from the previous forecast and 8.2 bushels less than the last growing season. Soybean yeilds are predicted to be 47.9 bushels per harvested acre, down 0.6 bushel from the August report and 3.7 bushels lower than in 2018. (Wisconsin Ag Connection)
