Marshfield Man Sentenced for Throwing Puppies in the Garbage Not Allowed to Have New Animals, But May Keep his Current Animals

Friday, September 13th, 2019 -- 1:27 PM

-A Marshfield man charged and sentenced for throwing puppies in a garbage can may not own any new animals, but is allowed to keep is current animals.

At the end of February, Marshfield Police were dispatched to complaint of the sound of kittens coming from a garbage can in the 800 block of E. 4th St. Upon arrival, it was learned that the sound was coming from 8 newborn puppies which had been discarded in a garbage bag and trash can at 813 E. 4th St. The bag was removed and the puppies were transported to the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter. Contact was made at the residence and, subsequently, Robert Wild was arrested and transported to the police department. During his court appearance last Friday, Wild was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, intentionally abandoning animals. Another charge was dismissed and read in.

Wild was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 1 year of probation. He may also have to pay the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter $5,018.95 for the care of the puppies. That decision will be made during his restitution hearing on November 7th. During his sentencing on Friday, the judge stated he needed to check state statute regarding whether or not Wild could have any pets. During his court appearance yesterday, it was determined that Wild may not own any new animals for 5 years, but he may keep the animals he currently has. The puppies were all adopted earlier this year and were even featured on Inside Edition.
