Willard Man Dies in Farm Accident

Friday, September 6th, 2019 -- 11:42 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -A freak farming accident claimed the life of a Willard man last week after he was run over by a parked forage box that started rolling down the side of a hill.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department says 58-year-old Luke Yurkovich was chopping hay and disengaged the wagon from a chopper. Witnesses say when the wagon started moving forward down a slope in the field, Yurkovich ran in front of it in an attempt to move the unit's tongue sideways to prevent it from coasting faster. That's when he fell backwards and was run over by one of implement's tires. The accident happened on Friday on the victim's farm near Greenwood. First responders performed CPR on Yurkovich, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

Yurkovich was a longtime board member of the North Hendren Dairy Cooperative and served as a board supervisor for the town of Mead. A Celebration of Life for Luke is being held at the Yurkovich Farm in Willard tomorrow beginning at 11:30am.
