Triple-A Says More People Dying in Crashes at Intersections

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 -- 7:43 AM

(WRN) -Triple-A says more people are dying in crashes at intersections than in years past, and that's likely because more people are running red lights.

Triple-A says more people are dying in crashes at intersections than in years past, and that's likely because more people are running red lights. Nick Jarmuz from Triple A says people need to remember their traffic safety rules and that you're supposed to slow down for a yellow.

"Misinterpreting what a yellow means, and just try to go ahead even when they could stop before the light turns red."

Jarmuz from Triple A says red light cameras are a decent deterrent, if used correctly.

"Certainly in places where there is a strong public education campaign, there is more of a deterrent effect."

Jarmuz says people need to stick to their drivers safety training all the time, even when it's not convenient.

"People do recognize that running a red light is a serious risk, but about 1 in three of them say that they've done so in recent days."

22 people died in red light related crashes in Wisconsin in 2017, an increase of 150 percent over the ten year average.
