Governor Evers Names "Lead Czar"

Tuesday, July 30th, 2019 -- 7:43 AM

(WRN) -Governor Tony Evers names a "lead czar."

At a Kenosha press conference on Monday, the Democratic governor signed an executive order, creating a new position at the Department of Health Services. Evers said this lead czar will coordinate efforts by state agencies to address the risks of lead contaminated drinking water. The move comes as a Task Force on Water Quality, formed by Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, is formulating policy recommendations.

Also, bipartisan legislation approved in the last session does allow municipalities request Public Service Commission permission to use ratepayer fees for low- or no-cost loans or grants to replace lead service lines.
