Marshfield School District's Career-And-Technical Education Program Paying Off

Thursday, July 11th, 2019 -- 7:18 AM

(WDLB) -The Marshfield School District's career-and-technical education program is paying off in a big way, literally.

Superintendent Dr. Ryan Christianson told the Board of Education last night the district is receiving its annual C-T-E Incentive Grant from the state Department of Public Instruction. Those grants are based on the number of students who earn certifications in youth apprenticeship and other work-based learning programs in the most-recent academic year. Marshfield had 86 students who successfully completed a total of 143 certifications in various fields of career and technical education, and Christianson said both of those numbers are all-time highs for Marshfield. Furthermore, he also noted the state legislature increased the total budgetary authority for the grants this year, allowing districts to claim one-thousand dollars per student, versus a pro-rated system that's been in place in recent years.

As a result, Marshfield will receive 86-thousand dollars for the class of 2018 C-T-E Incentive Grant. Christianson also noted that students were earning extremely valuable work experience in career areas that are facing workforce shortages, such as child care, nursing assistant, automotive, information technology, agriculture, manufacturing and many more, putting those students in immediate demand.
