Neillsville City Council Approves New Truck for Public Works Department

Thursday, May 30th, 2019 -- 7:33 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved the Public Works Department to purchase a new truck.

The small 2008 Chevy pickup the department has been using has 107,000 miles on it and is used to go to the wells every day. The truck has a bad timing chain and a cracked frame on both sides behind the cab and can no longer be driven. The department has a price for a new Chevy Colorado and the funds are available. The cost for the truck is $23,629, but that could increase slightly as many auto dealers are already switching over from 2019s to 2020s. The department also approved a resolution reviewing the Compliance Maintenance Annual Report for the city. The City of Neillsville scored well on almost all the items with the exception of a couple. For effluent quality regarding phosphorous, the city received a D grade.

Public Works Director Dave Flynn stated that part of the reason behind that was because of heavy rains last year, the city received periods of very high flowage through the plants. They have since corrected those issues. The department also received a C grade for operator certification. However, since that time, the employees with the department, especially water and sewer, have received the necessary certifications and hours needed to raise that grade. Both items were first discussed and approved during the Public Works portion of the meeting and then again during the regular Common Council meeting.
