USDA April 2019 Chicken & Egg Report

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -State poultry producers counted less eggs on their farms during April when compared to the same time a year earlier.

According to the latest USDA Chickens and Eggs report, Wisconsin produced 169 million eggs, down two-percent from 2018, but two-percent more than the previous month. The average number of all layers on hand was 7.05 million, down four-percent for the year and one-percent for the month. Eggs per 100 layers for April were 2,402, up three percent from both April 2018 and March 2019.

Nationally, egg production totaled 9.34 billion during April, up five percent from last year. Production included 8.18 billion table eggs, and 1.17 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.08 billion were broiler-type and 87.1 million were egg-type. The average number of layers totaled 403 million, up three percent from the previous April.
