Wisconsin's Blue Sign Actually a Pretty Good Deal for Businesses

(WRN) -If you've ever wondered about those blue signs telling you where to get gas, food or a hotel, it turns out they're a pretty good deal for local businesses.Wisconsin D O T Spokesman Jon Riemann says those signs are part of a public-private partnership.
"It allows for individual businesses to essentially pay to have their company's logo, be it a gas station, restaurant, whatever, including on one of these blue signs."
Riemann says the signs can help you find some food or gas without the need for you to look down at your phone.
"'Oh! It's only four-tenths of a mile off of the exit here, well I'm going to exit here and go get gas there!' or if they're looking for a particular restaurant."
Riemann says they consider those signs a safety feature, as well as promotion.
"Maybe they're getting hungry and want to go find something and they're not really sure where they're at even? Yeah, we don't want you looking down at your phone. Leave those away, and stick to the old fashioned way of navigation."
He says it's a good way for people to find their favorite gas station or fast food place without having to go hunting.
