Hixton Man Appears in Court for Shooting Neighbor's Dog

-A Hixton man charged for shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog appeared in Jackson County Court on Monday.According to court records, on March 16th, Donald Chandler shot and killed his neighbor’s dog after it got loose from its chain. Chandler told authorities that the dog was out of control and crazy, but other neighbors said the dog wasn’t a problem. Chandler said he had meant to shoot to scare the dog away, but had hit it in the neck. He said it was a quick and stupid decision.
Chandler is being charged with intentionally mistreating an animal. During his initial appearance on Monday, he entered a not guilty plea to the charge against him. He’s scheduled to be back in court on June 12th.
