Republican Legislative Leaders Trying to Outmaneuver the Governor Again

Tuesday, May 21st, 2019 -- 10:52 AM

(WRN) -Republican legislative leaders may try to outmaneuver the governor, on the state budget.

WisPolitics-dot-com reports that Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos are considering splitting the budget into two bills, one with a spending plan, one containing policy, in an attempt to get around Governor Tony Evers' partial veto authority.

Vos told WisPolitics that that no final decision has been made, and that the possible two-bill approach reflects frustration among GOP lawmakers that Evers doesn't want to "negotiate or talk about any of the topics in his budget." An Evers spokeswoman said it was the first his office has heard of the idea.
