Senator Baldwin Supports Bill Offering Tax Credits to People Who Are Primary Home Caregivers

(WRN) -Senator Tammy Baldwin wants to make it easier for people to take care of their elderly loved ones at home.

Senator Tammy Baldwin wants to make it easier for people to take care of their elderly loved ones at home. The new bill would offer up tax credits to people who are a primary home caregiver. Baldwin says suddenly having to help support a loved one can overwhelm someone who isn't expecting it.

"And finds very quickly that juggling work and other family responsibilities and caring for their loved one ends up being a significant financial expense."

Baldwin says it's something that around 578-thousand Wisconsinites are dealing with every year.

"Every day, family caregivers do right by their loved ones, an I would love to see us do a better job of doing right by them."

Baldwin says the bill would offer up a three thousand dollar tax credit to pay for the out of pocket expenses you have to handle while caring for a relative.

"This measure really focuses on the time when the loved one, the family caregiver, is doing everything they can to help their loved one stay at home."

Baldwin says this will help bridge the financial gap that many people face when they take the step to start caring for their relatives.
