Senator Baldwin Critical of Administration's Trade Policies

Friday, May 17th, 2019 -- 7:43 AM

(WRN) -Wisconsin’s Democratic Senator is critical of the Administration’s trade policies, as Vice President Mike Pence visited Eau Claire to talk about trade issues.

Tammy Baldwin says Pence is visiting the epicenter of the U.S. dairy industry and farmers are suffering because of his ongoing trade war.

"We have lost 1480 dairy farms since the Administration took office. Farmers in Wisconsin need certainty, and this administration hasn't provided any yet."

Baldwin does not see any Congressional action coming soon on the USMCA agreement, which is a replacement for NAFTA, as talks on inspections of the labor conditions of Mexican factories break down.

"What we're hearing from the House of Representatives is 'How do we know this is going to be enforceable?'"

Baldwin is critical of the President’s tariffs on China, and the steel and aluminum tariffs on Mexico and Canada. The Vice President participated in a roundtable discussion on the USMCA agreement at J&D Manufacturing in Eau Claire before speaking about the impact that agreement will have on Wisconsin.
