Senator Baldwin Calls for More Cooperation from the President

Thursday, May 16th, 2019 -- 12:53 PM

(WRN) -Wisconsin's Democrat senator is calling for more cooperation from President Trump in regards to continuing investigations from Congressional oversight committees.

Senator Tammy Baldwin says The Trump Administration is continuing to sandbag congressional investigations, and that he needs to consider his actions carefully. Committees in both the House and Senate have subpoenaed both information and people at this point.

"Our President has said 'I won't make members of my administration available for oversight,' which is the responsibility of the Congress of the United States, that he will refuse to respect subpenas. This is a very serious matter."

Baldwin says the Administration needs to comply with subpoenas.

"The truth should never be the victim in any of these disputes, and I call on President Trump to work with the Congress to get to the bottom of some really important questions."

Baldwin says she's troubled by the lengths to which President Trump is trying to hamper Congressional investigations. Committees in both the House and Senate have been working to investigate matters involving the Trump Administration, and she says there are important topics that need to be addressed.

"Whether it's election integrity or very serious questions about the President's financial entanglements."

She says Congress has a responsibility of ensuring oversight and that the Trump Administration needs to respect that.
