Winter Wheat Production Decreased Compared to Last Year

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Winter wheat production in Wisconsin is forecast at 12.1 million bushels, about 35 percent less than last year's total output.

According to the latest USDA Crop Production report, yields are forecast at 71 bushels per acre--unchanged from from last year. However, growers intend to cut their total wheat acreage this year by 15 percent at 170,000 acres.

Nationally, U.S. wheat production is projected to be around 1.27 billion bushels, up seven percent from 2018. As of May 1, the yield is forecast at 50.3 bushels per acre, up 2.4 bushels from last year's average yield.
