Senate Ag Committee Approves Funding for Wisconsin Farm Tractor Rollover Protective Structure Rebate Program

Friday, May 3rd, 2019 -- 8:48 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Legislation that would allocate funding for the Wisconsin farm tractor Rollover Protective Structure Rebate program has been approved by the Senate Ag Committee this week.

The bill, which was co-sponsored by Senator Patrick Testin of Stevens Point and Rep. Bob Kulp from Stratford, aims to help farmers retrofit their tractors with a structure that keeps the driver safe in the event of a rollover. According to the National Farm Medicine Center, which is based at the Marshfield Clinic, Wisconsin would join New York and Minnesota as the only states to fund rebates for rollbar retrofits.

The NFMC's program has helped fund the installation of more than 250 ROPS on tractors in 30 counties since 2012. The measure will now advance to the full Senate for a vote, while a companion bill has already been introduced in the Assembly.
