State Democrats Continue to Try and Expand Badgercare

Friday, May 3rd, 2019 -- 7:44 AM

(WRN) -State Democrats are pushing to keep a plan to expand Badgercare coverage in the state budget.

State Democrats are starting their pushback against Republican efforts to strip Governor Evers policy changes from the state budget. State Representative Chris Taylor says it's vital and the Medicaid expansion program remains in place. She says federal funding will go towards more than just insurance, and that people should consider it an investment.

"We're all better off in our state, when people have access to health care. It really is in my opinion a basic human right."

Taylor says the funding is already there as part of the Affordable Care Act and it's waiting to be used.

"It's such a win win situation to be able to use billions of dollars in federal funds to make critical healthcare investments that communities all over the state are asking us to do. They are desperate."

Taylor says that funding has been available for years, and it can be used to improve the health care coverage for people across the state.

"We're able to attract so many more federal dollars to make these investments, without really increasing our state money that's spent on these programs."

Republicans say they want to just have a straight budget, and will consider bringing back policy changes later in the year.
